![]() The easy difficulty gives you one star, normal gives you two, and you'll get three stars if you complete the stage on hard. Should a foe make it past all of the towers, there's still a monk at the very end, who will unleash attacks until the enemy gets past and saps away at your overall health.Īs in any tower defense game, you're given stars for completing each stage, but you gain them for completing the stage in different difficulty levels. In addition to the towers, you have powers of your own, which include throwing down a meteor or causing an earthquake to occur anywhere on the map. The towers can also be upgraded later to add extra elements, like temporarily freezing an enemy in place or adding burning damage to hits. All of the towers can be upgraded to different levels to increase their firing range, strength, and firing tempo. You'll fight off a variety of enemies with towers that are based on the four elements (earth, fire, water and wind). There are 15 battlefields to go through in the campaign, each with fixed lanes and tower placement areas. If you're familiar with the classic tower defense formula, you'll already know what to expect from The Keeper of 4 Elements. It would be great to say the same of this title but, unfortunately, that's not the case. It's also a port of a mobile title, a designation that isn't necessarily a negative since we've seen titles like Badlands and Oceanhorn originate in the mobile space and become very solid console and PC games. ![]() The Keeper of 4 Elements tries to help the tower defense genre gain more of a presence on the PS4. ![]() Fan works involving the blue hedgehog have flooded the internet for years, with the most impressive being Sonic fan games. Sonic's reputation quickly spiraled, but his popularity remains arguably as strong as ever. Rather than revert back to what made his first couple of games so good, Sega kept pushing 3D titles, even after they left the console business. Unlike his contemporaries, Sonic wasn't - and arguably still isn't - able to find a comfortable footing in the 3D space. That was until the 16-bit days ended, and the shift to 3D began. Needless to say, Sonic was looking to run away with the title of the face of gaming. He was even the very first video game character to ever get his own balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Sonic was the cool, hip, more "adult" type of character with a very '90s attitude that resonated with a large portion of the western gaming audience. ![]() The blue blur certainly gave the plumber a run for his money in the 8- and 16-bit days of gaming and was arguably winning in terms of mass popularity for a brief moment in time. Sonic Frontiers comes to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S next yearin time for the holidays. The film seems to be taking many cues from a mix of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles and Sonic Adventure. Stars Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey introduced the trailer, which gave us a closer look at Tails and a very Sonic 3-esque Knuckles, rocking the old attitude he brought with him in his initial appearance. The Game Awards also featured the debut trailer for Sonic’s next big-screen adventure, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The world shows some very obvious inspiration from BOTW, and even includes tons of Shieikah Tower-like structures around the map. Sega has confirmed that more details on the game will be released throughout June, so stick around for the latest Sonic Frontiers news. Now that we’ve gotten our first look, it’s clear the leak was on the nose. The game is currently scheduled to be released later this year for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4 PS5, Switch, and PC. The 30-second gameplay preview of Sonic Frontiers is quite brief, but does give fans the first look at gameplay in the latest Sonic adventure. ![]() Drawing comparisons to Breath of the Wild, this new title looks like a departure from the standard franchise formula, mainly in its move to an open-world approach or “open-zone” as Sega is calling it. Sonic Frontiers was revealed last year during The Game Awards. We can see different rails and platforms far off in the distance, and the sequence of Sonic running on a wheel seems like the game’s equivalent to a recon tower, scanning and revealing notable points of interest in the surrounding areas. The new gameplay footage provides us with a better idea of what an open-world Sonic game will look like. We also get a look at combat against some fascinating enemies, one of which is a massive metal claw that looks like it was detached from an even larger beast. There’s platforming, ring-collecting, and all of the regular fixings of a Sonic game present. In the brief video, we see the iconic blue blur dashing through forested areas and grassy plains. The Sonic Frontiers gameplay preview was released on the Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel as an IGN First ahead of a bigger reveal this June. Though not much is known about this new chapter, publisher Sega has provided our first look at gameplay in Sonic Frontiers, showing off the game’s various environments, bosses, and obstacles. The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise will expand later this year with the release of Sonic Frontiers. ![]() is extremely intuitive and suitable for a wide range of fitness/nutritional goals."īest for: Tracking micronutrients in addition to macros The flexibility of being able to modify multiple facets of your goals such as macronutrients, weight loss/gain per week, etc. The breakdown of information into multiple charts and graphs is a phenomenal resource. This blood draining mechanic means that most of the actually dangerous enemies are not really big threats, as if they do hit you, you can quickly attack them back and drain their health so it is as if the battle never happened. Most enemies take one bat to stun and another bat to put them down for good, but if Dracula is running low on health, he can choose to finish them off by draining their blood if they’re one of the eligible enemy types. However, Dracula has one and only one way of dealing with them, and that’s flinging bats at them until they die. Along the way, Dracula will face foes from the familiar stable of Halloween horrors as well as regular but well-armed humans and just some overly aggressive wildlife like rats and scorpions. Dracula sets off to take him down, but to defeat him he must search around for support from other vampires who can help him reach the final battle. Dracula has been sleeping for years and awakes to find someone called the Grand Inquisitor has seized power during his absence. The plot doesn’t really try to do anything outlandish either. Perhaps this could be some sort of indicator that this is a radically different take on the count, or maybe its to tell kids in the 1990s Dracula was being given an extreme makeover to make him cooler, but while the box art seems to hint at some shift away from the classic horror icon’s typical depiction, the game offers no actual answers on what makes him so crazy. If you use 5v, you can power the arduino and the striker with the same power supply. There are electric striker plates for ~$30 on amazon that can use 5v (900mA) or 12va AC. To this I want to attach an NFC scanner that will, upon recognition of one of a preset list of cards, send 12v to the striker (or cancel the current, as the case may be), allowing the gate to open. Otherwise, in the absent of current, it's closed. Alternately, this can be reversed: when the gate receives voltage, it opens (so the door can swing open). When the gate receives voltage (8-16v, ideally 12v) it's closed, but when voltage is removed it's open. The lock would be built into my fence, using what's known as an "electric striker lock", basically a little gate that a deadbolt fits into. Full cross-play support across consoles from day one should help with that too. I can also say it seems like there's little danger of the game going through post-launch doldrums as the developers transition to a live service business model. The kid genius Flux fights with rocket cat robots, can turn invisible, and is definitely going to shake things up when she arrives on July 28. I can't talk about any specifics related to those plans yet, except to say the developers let us play with the 11th hero coming in Season 1. While everything I've talked about so far will be playable at launch, Final Strike Games also shared some plans to keep Rocket Arena updated with seasons upon season of new content. There's enough skill involved that the truly masterful will be able to soar in circles around newbies, but I was delighted to pull off even a minor feat of rocket gymnastics after years of failed attempts. At one point I even managed to play keep-away with a treasure chest by blasting myself along the bottom edge of the map, fully covered from my ground-dwelling enemies. ![]() Rocket Arena makes rocket jumping accessible and forgiving (your own blasts don't hurt you) so anybody can climb around levels with a bit of foot-shooting practice. I've tried to master it many times in many games, and never gotten beyond the "blowing myself up" part to the "sailing gracefully across the map" part. Rocket Arena does let me indulge in a different kind of flight of fancy: actual rocket jumping. I'd be lying if I didn't say I miss the old-school explosions, though. The work the developers at Final Strike Games have done to make each characters' rockets have their own personality shines through, and I'm glad they took the usual fundamentals then built on them toward a new direction. These are all sound decisions for creating a smooth, friendly, and watchable game: huge, screen-shaking explosions that result in a shower of gore and a respawn delay probably wouldn't make Rocket Arena more fun to play. ![]() Compare that to the wild joy of scoring a crit with The Soldier's rocket in Team Fortress 2, instantly blasting a hole in the enemy team as meaty giblets fly everywhere, and… well, there is no comparison. A direct hit on an opponent might fill their meter by a third at most and then they'll whip around and start returning fire. There's a little screenshake, and your reticle kicks a bit, and that's it. In the process of being converted from high-powered weapons to bread-and-butter combat and traversal tools they lost their chaotic charm the simple act of firing a rocket, one of video gaming's most primal joys, doesn't do all that much for me in Rocket Arena. The problem is that Rocket Arena's rockets don't feel that explosive. Grappling to the top of a rocky outcropping, floating around in her frosty field that makes her shots extra fast and everybody else's bullet-time slow, and raining frozen death on the enemy team was the highlight of my team with Rocket Arena. To be fair, I didn't end up maining either of those characters in their respective games after the initial infatuation ended, and it only took me one match with Kayi to know we were going to be best friends. Though each design is distinct, I didn't feel immediately drawn to any one character based on their looks alone - the way that I looked at Pharah or Pathfinder and knew right away I wanted to be that one. Each character also has special ways of getting around the map or repelling enemy attacks. They all fire rockets as their primary weapons, but they each have different takes on the idea: there's Jayto, who fires a bunch of fast, hard-hitting missiles, or Kayi, who can charge up her explosive crossbow bolts for extra speed, or Blastbeard, who fires arcing cannonballs. Each of the 10 characters included at launch has their own unique look, story, and special abilities. Rocket Arena is a hero shooter like Overwatch or Apex Legends. ![]() It’s not hard to understand why everyone loves FabFilter’s Pro-Q 3 EQ from Plugin Boutique.
